Stamped Concrete

Stamped or patterned concrete is concrete that is colored and embossed with a stamp mat to resemble something natural such as Slate, Flagstone, Arizona Fieldstone, Jumbo Stone, Brick, Cobble Stone or Wood. Typical uses are walkways, patios, driveways, pool decks and interior applications. We have several methods of coloring the concrete used for stamped concrete. We normally use the method of integrally coloring the concrete where the concrete is colored in the mixing truck resulting in color completely through the slab. The other method is using a color hardener product of pigmented portland cement, which colors the top portion of the slab. This method is very effective especially if we are looking for a base color that is lighter than the light gray color of natural concrete. In either coloring method an antiquing release/accent color will be used that will highlight/antique the stone resulting in a two color effect for the style selected.

In addition to making the stone texture appear two-dimensional, the antiquing release also keeps the concrete from sticking to the stamping equipment. The timing of this process is very critical and proper execution is necessary to achieve uniform stamping texture for the entire project. Once the stamped concrete has curd enough for foot traffic (usually the next day) we will wash off 80% of the applied antiquing release agent leaving the antiquing release in the lower indentations of the pattern. The stamped concrete is sealed with a high grade breathable sealer that will enhance the appearance and provide protection.

Projects can be further enhanced using border techniques to accent the overall project. Borders can be of the same color or produced with contrasting colors to further highlight the border process. Accents can also be achieved using a special stamp such as an Aztec Sun or Compass Rose. Deco-Crete would like to thank you for visiting our website and we look forward to hearing from you.

Deco Crete did an awesome job putting in our new patio. Dave was easy to work with and had some really good ideas regarding a small retaining wall and re-routing a downspout. They were able to work around our existing pool and fence and tie everything together nicely. Weather delayed our project but we are very happy with the finished result.
