Concrete Acid Stain

Concrete acid staining adds beautiful translucent effects to plain concrete. This reactive, penetrating concrete stain produces unique, permanent, sophisticated looking concrete color effects.

Acid staining is ideal for creating an antique, mottled, variegated patina for exterior hardscapes, interior floors, or on any clean, sound concrete surface.

Acid stains are a mixture of water, hydrochloric acid, and acid-soluble metallic salts. Acid stains work by penetrating the surface and reacting chemically with the hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide) in the concrete. The acid in the stain lightly etches the surface, allowing the metallic slats to penetrate more easily. Once the stain reacts, it becomes a permanent part of the concrete and won’t fade, chip off, or peel away. Like stains for wood, acid-based stains are translucent and the color they produce will vary depending on the color and condition of the substrate they are applied to. Each concrete slab will accept the stain in varying degrees of intensity, creating natural color variations that bring character and distinction to each project.

Concrete Dyes

Concrete dyes are used when colors unobtainable with acid stains are required. Concrete dyes cannot be applied outside or subjected to heavy UV light sources, as this could cause fading. For this reason we recommend only using concrete dyes on interior applications.

Deco Crete did an awesome job putting in our new patio. Dave was easy to work with and had some really good ideas regarding a small retaining wall and re-routing a downspout. They were able to work around our existing pool and fence and tie everything together nicely. Weather delayed our project but we are very happy with the finished result.
